PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY at DAULTON PHYSICAL THERAPY

A Whole-Body Approach Using Fascial Counterstrain

At Daulton Physical Therapy, we treat the pelvic floor as part of a whole body,  integrated system — not as an isolated group of muscles..

Many pelvic floor programs focus primarily on Myofascial release or muscle retraining (think:Kegels!). While strengthening has its place, pelvic symptoms often begin with irritation in surrounding systems — including nerves, circulation, scar tissue, or alignment of the pelvis and tailbone.

Our Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) approach gently addresses the deeper causes of pelvic pain and dysfunction, including:

  • Irritated or sensitive pelvic nerves
  • Restricted blood flow
  • Fluid congestion or swelling
  • Scar tissue from childbirth or surgeries
  • Tension in the sacrum, tailbone, and pelvic bones
  • Protective muscle guarding patterns

The pelvic floor is closely connected to your hips, abdomen, Lower back, Ribs, Neck, and nervous system!  When these systems are under stress, symptoms may develop such as pelvic pain, urinary urgency, bowel changes, tailbone discomfort, ED or pre and postpartum dysfunction, even fertility issues.

Using precise, comfortable positioning techniques, Fascial Counterstrain helps calm irritation, improve circulation, and restore balance to the pelvic region. Once the system is more settled, strengthening and stabilization (when appropriate) become more effective and far more comfortable.

Treatment is often performed externally. When clinically appropriate and discussed with you beforehand, internal techniques may be included. Your comfort, consent, and understanding are always prioritized.

Our goal is not simply stronger muscles —
It is a calmer, healthier, better-functioning pelvic system.

Who This Is For

Our systems-based pelvic floor therapy may be appropriate for Men and/or women experiencing:

  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Pre and Postpartum pelvic floor concerns
  • diastasis recti abdominis
  • Infertility issues
  • Erectile dysfunction in men
  • Endometriosis
  • Tailbone (coccyx) pain
  • Pain with sitting
  • Urinary urgency, frequency, or leakage
  • Bowel dysfunction or pelvic pressure
  • Pain after abdominal or pelvic surgery
  • Persistent symptoms that have not improved with traditional pelvic floor exercises

This approach is especially helpful for those who feel they have “tried everything” but continue to experience symptoms.

If your pelvic floor feels tight, irritated, inflamed, or weak, our whole-body systems approach may be the missing piece. We listen to your concerns, thoroughly assess all systems of the body as we work to restore homeostasis so you can function optimally again, without the need to just manage symptoms for the rest of your life.

Men’s Pelvic Health

Pelvic floor dysfunction can affect men as well, contributing to symptoms such as pelvic pain, tailbone pain, urinary urgency or leakage, bowel changes, or discomfort following prostate or abdominal surgery.

At Daulton Physical Therapy, we use a whole-body Fascial Counterstrain approach to evaluate and treat the pelvic system — addressing nerve irritation, circulation, pelvic and tailbone alignment, and surrounding muscle tension. By restoring balance to the pelvic region, many men experience improvement without relying solely on strengthening exercises.

Common reasons men seek pelvic floor therapy

  • Male pelvic pain
  • Post-prostate surgery recovery
  • Chronic tailbone (coccyx) pain
  • Urinary urgency, frequency, or leakage
  • Pain with sitting
  • Groin or lower abdominal discomfort
  • Erectile Dysfunction
